Director Naoko Masuda in person!

A stop-motion animation based on a Grimm Brothers' Fairy Tale, 'The Sausage, the Bird, and the Mouse,' tells the story of three creatures whose harmonious lives are interrupted by a series of unfortunate events.

Real-life organic materials (including sausages and bird carcasses) interact with artificial figures made from clay, fur, feathers, and more, in this cautionary tale about the nature of change. Max Margulies and Naoko Masuda, undergraduate film students at Temple University, created 'The Sausage, the Bird, and the Mouse,' along with its puppets and sets. The piece was shot on 16mm color negative, using a Bolex and an animation motor, implementing traditional stop-motion animation techniques.

This was a very adorable short based off a Grimm Brother's tale - so you know it can't end well. I'd call it a noble effort, and it certainly earned it's spot in the festival, but it's not something I'd call home about. The production values are decent for a student product created over weekends and late nights, but some of the sound was rough.
