Fantastic Fest 2008

This collection of strange tales was interesting at best- I love the style of Gondry, & his entry was enjoyable as expected - a girl feels she's lost her purpose in life, & changes accordingly. The 2nd film starts off strong with an incredible opening sequence of continuous action for about 1/4 of a mile in the city, but when the character gets caught the story becomes a tiresome trial that no one understands, because there is lengthy "dialogue" in a fake language with no subtitles. could have benefited from being 15 minutes shorter. The 3rd film is done well - a recluse man decides to go outside for the love of a recluse woman. All in all, they're worth watching, just for the bizarre subject matter & styles.

Incredible entry from S.Korea, no surprise why it was one of their top films. Dark, moody & plenty of tension, this crime thriller is hard to watch without feeling anxiety. A pimp (ex-cop) loses some girls, decides to use his detective skills to track them down, finds the killer & the law won't hold him for lack of evidence - so pimp-cop takes it into his own hands the hard & painful way. Exceptionally well acted, paced, and not a scent of Hollywood. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

I remember laughing a lot, mostly because of utterly raunchy jokes. Otherwise, it's Kevin Smith's return to "Mallrats" form feel-good romantic comedy of the year like "Orgazmo" was, with 75% more Jason Mewes dong..
