Fantastic Fest 2009

Alex Wells (Nick DíAgosto) is a troubled young man. Recently orphaned, this nice-looking library employee prowls his suburban neighborhood and breaks into homes of people that interest him while theyíre home. Lately, he ís become intrigued by the Smiths (Kevin Kilner, Cheryl White), a sad, middle-aged couple who come in where he works and check out the same book over and over again. Alex finally follows them home, watches them through the windows and canít resist getting a closer look at the argument theyíre having. Then something happens...they catch him spying. But instead of calling the police, Alice and Mark invite Alex to dinner, eager to know more about this boy who reminds them so much of a recently lost loved one. First-time writer/director Jeff Mahler has crafted a weirdly compelling, eerily suspenseful thriller that creeps up on you and never lets go. Beneath the thrills and mounting tension, INSIDE paints a powerful and disturbing portrait of loss, despair, desperation, and need, and the lengths we will go to overcome them
