In honor of Fantastic Fest, longtime Alamo comedy gods Master Pancake Theatre suck the air out of one of sci-fi's most dated hits, TOTAL RECALL (1990). Directed by inscrutable Dutchman Paul Verhoeven (SHOWGIRLS, BASIC INSTINCT), based on a story by master mind-fuck artist Philip K. Dick, and starring lumpy Austrian politico Arnold Schwarzenegger (HERCULES IN NEW YORK, PUMPING IRON) as the world's least-plausible "average Joe": Douglas Quaid, a man who really really needs a vacation. The complex plot – involving cover-ups, conspiracies and false memories -- is made even more opaque by Ahnold's thick accent and his tendency to add extra syllables to words: "air" become "eeyaher." "Mars" becomes "Mee-ah-er-zah." And two-boobed ladies become three-boobed ladies in this over-the-top feast for the eyes. Join Master Pancake as they "Dick" around with one of the best-worst sci-fi movies of the 90's.
