Human Centipede (First Sequence)
Tom Six 2009 | Feature, Guest in Attendance, Horror
Sick, disturbing and bizarre. The doctor reminded me of Christopher Walken, and the house reminded me of Dr. Chandra's house in Hellraiser II. The austere atmosphere and bizarre circumstances combined with this most unnerving of stories makes Human Centipede one of the more disturbing films I've seen at Fantastic Fest. There was not as much explicit gore as I expected (not much at all, in fact), but it was well presented and effective. The real horror here comes from the story and the performances, which are surprisingly effective considering the outlandishness of the concept.

Doghouse
Jake West 2009 | Comedy, Feature, Guest in Attendance, Horror
The battle of the sexes in monster form. Male and female stereotypes in glorious battle on the silver screen, with humor and gore galore. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. Refreshingly non-PC! As British horror-comedies go, I would say this rests below Severance and Shaun of the Dead, but is still worth a watch.
