The recent rediscovery of an early cut of Fritz Lang's monumental classic METROPOLIS has been the most significant film preservation story in decades. If you haven't heard, a print of METROPOLIS was located in an Argentinian film archive. While prints that played in other parts of the world were cut drastically, the Argentinian version conformed to the first release version and is over 20 minutes longer than the previous restored cut. Full restoration was completed this year. The news about the rediscovery and restoration has spread like wildfire among film aficionados and screenings have been in great demand.

This screening and our subsequent run of METROPOLIS will be the first screenings in Austin of this epochal film in its complete form. Such a special occasion requires special execution so we will be taking over the Seaholm Power Plant for a gala screening with a live orchestral score by Golden Hornet Project. This will be an unforgettable evening.

Tickets: $25 general admission; $75 VIP that includes reserved seating and pre-film cocktail reception.

About METROPOLIS: This silent science fiction film is set in a futuristic urban dystopia where society has been divided into two rigid groups: one of planners or thinkers, who live high above the earth in luxury, and another of workers who live underground toiling to sustain the lives of the privileged. The beautiful and evangelical figure Maria (Brigitte Helm) takes up the cause of the workers as the film examines a common science fiction theme of the day: the social crisis between workers and owners in capitalism. The art direction of this dystopian masterpiece lends itself perfectly to Austin iconic Seaholm Power Plant, whose stylized-yet-industrial veneer is now being dwarfed by the behemoths of modern urban living space.

About GOLDEN HORNET PROJECT:
Bridging the nightclub and the concert hall, the academy and the underground with accessible and affordable concerts and educational programs, Austin's own Golden Hornet Project is a unique partnership between two composer/musicians, namely Graham Reynolds and Peter Stopschinski. Since 1999, GHP has collaborated to commission and present the work of more than 30 composers in 40 concerts and premiered 8 new orchestral works. The Austin Critics Table awarded GHP "Best Chamber Concert 2009" for "Tosca String Quartet: New Works" and "Best Symphonic Concert 2010 for "Symphony VI." Their next concert is "Heavy Metal Massacre: Composed Music for Heavy Metal Band and Strings," on November 20.

THE COMPLETE METROPOLIS will have an encore run at Alamo Ritz Sept 17-23
